Kharkov is one of the favorite cities for the Ukrainian tourists. Probably, for this reason it was the first capital of Ukraine.
Sumskaya Street considered the central street of Kharkov, connecting two main squares of the city - the Constitution squire and Freedom squire. Walking along Sumskaya street, you can see a lot of the monuments of ancient architecture. In the very beginning of the street, from the Constitution square you will admire the tower of the Executive Committee building. Here, not far from the entrance to the metro station «Historical Museum» there is the large thermometer with clock placed on the wall of one of the buildings. It’s the favorite place for meeting.
The drama theatre named after Taras Shevchenko is situated up on Sumskaya Street. Small and cozy Park of Poetry is on the opposite side of the street from the drama theatre, not far from the building of the bank. Further you can admire the elegant building of the Kharkov theatre of Opera and ballet. Here is Zerkal’naya struya - a pergola and a fountain, which became a real symbol of Kharkiv.
Perhaps the best monument to the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko is also located here, in Kharkiv. This monument is located in the park named after Shevchenko. Walking through the park you can find the zoo. In the western part of the park you can walk along the Cascade - the stairs that look like the waterfall, built for the 300-anniversary of Kharkov. Not far from of the Cascade there is one of the botanic gardens of the city - it is a small, but cozy. And the second botanical garden of Kharkiv is located near the metro station of the same name. In addition to interesting exotic plants here is also the cleanest water source in Kharkiv.
After visiting the Botanical gardens, you can go to the Gorky Park, which is reachable by the funicular. It’s an amusement park – there are various attractions, the railway for the little ones, as well as the paintball.
Liberty square in the end of Sumskaya Street is interesting because it takes the third place among the largest squares in the world. It’s even bigger than Moscow Red square. On holidays, on Liberty square in Kharkov various celebrations, concerts and festivals take place.
Kharkiv can be proud of their cathedrals. One of them is Pokrovsky Cathedral built in 1689. It is the reminder of the Ukrainian architecture of 17th century. The Cathedral of the Dormition is famous for its bell tower, which is the tallest building in the city of Kharkiv. Its height is about 90 meters.
Kharkiv is beautiful in any season and at any time of the day, however, walk on night city shall be unforgettable - you will see a bright illumination and sparkling colorful fountains.
