The village of Yasinya is situated at the foot of the mountains Goverla, the Twins, and Petros, in the tract Dragobrat. It’s interesting that all the ways to the foot of the Stog mountain pass through Yasinya, which is situated at 647 meters above sea level.
Yasinya is known, first of all, thanks to the ski sport. There are many trails here and two ski lifts - for 500 and 1000 meters. Near the lifts, you can rent ski equipment and ask for the help of instructors. The infrastructure of the village is developing; there are excellent options for living and recreation, cafes, shops, and saunas.
Its name Yasinya received from ash forests, the trees are called «yasen’». On the emblem of the village there is an ash tree, and the symbol is the earlier small chapel, which is now Struk Church. According to local legend, shepherd named Struk was locked in the winter with in the mountains with his flock of sheep, so he left his sheep to be saved from the frost. The shepherd returned in the spring and found the sheep standing in the same place where he had left them. Struk thanked to God for this miracle, and decided to name the settlement after ash forests Yasinya.
In Yasinya it is impossible not to taste a traditional Hutsul dish called banosh. It is extremely popular here and prepared with special feelings. Banosh is porridge from a corn flour, which is prepared in a special way and dressed when submitting bacon, cheese and mushrooms. Even if at a local restaurant the banosh isn’t mentioned in menu, the cook will necessary cook it at your request, which explains the exceptional hospitality of the local people.
There in Yasinya is a Museum of local lore where you can learn a lot about the history of the area. The Struk Church is built of wood and it still works. It is situated in one kilometer from the village centre. In addition, having been in Yasinya, you have to admire the waterfall Trufyanets, located on the outskirts of the village. There are also different things to see - from here you can go to Yaremche, to the salt lakes in Solotvyno, to Yablunytsia pass, to Khust to the Valley of Daffodils, go on Hoverla mountain or to the geographical center of Europe.
