Sights of Kiev
Kiev is an ancient and beautiful city with rich historical and cultural heritage, which was founded in V-th century. Kyiv has always been the centre of the Slavic world, no wonder that Kyiv is the mother of Russian cities. In the capital of Ukraine successfully fit the mood of the past and the present, the historical heritage and the spirit of today, but also a reminder about the future.
Kyiv today is the largest city of Ukraine, it’s a capital and the heart of the country. The founders of Kiev are brothers Kyi, Schek and Khoriv and their sister Lybid, and the name of the city has received in honor of the eldest of the brothers. Long-through Kiev was important trade routes, for example, «from the Varangians to the Greeks». In ancient times, and today Kyiv is not only a political, but also cultural center of modern Ukraine. The most prominent and remarkable samples of Ukrainian architecture - St. Sophia Cathedral and the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra were built in Kiev in the middle of XI century.
In addition, we note that Kiev is full of different cultural, historical and architectural monuments, which are under the protection of the city authorities, there are under restore and rebuilding. Among the attractions such it is worth noting the Golden gate, Vydubitsky monastery, St. Michael Golden-domed monastery, St. Vladimir's Cathedral, the Mariinsky Palace, the Trinity Church, Pokrovskaya Church and St. Andrew's Church, built in the style of Baroque. Special mention deserves the national Opera of Ukraine as a separate architectural monument, as well as a monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky, the House with chimeras Gorodetsky and the building of the Kiev national University, and of course, the monument to the founders of the city - Kyi, Schek and Khoriv and their sister Lybid.
Kyiv is the city of culture, where are more than 30 museums, 33 theatres, more than 2 thousand monuments of architecture, unique in its kind, as well as a variety of exhibitions and expositions. Separately it is necessary to mention the memorial complex «The Ukrainian state Museum of the Great Patriotic war 1941 - 1945», and the sculpture «Mother of the Fatherland», that is the part of the complex. In Kiev there are also two botanical gardens, that are worthy of special attention.
Kiev can be described as a city of blossoming chestnuts, for a long time becomes the emblem of the capital. In the capital of Ukraine there are more than 60 parks, the walk along them is a true pleasure both for residents and for city guests.
